Taxonomy
Bellerophon (Bucania) opertus was named by Foerste (1893) [Bellerophon (Bucania) opertus Foerste 1893]. It is not extant. Its type locality is Hanover, which is in an Alexandrian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Brassfield Limestone Formation of Ohio.
It was recombined as Sphenosphaera opertus by Wagner (2023).
