Murchisonia egregium was named by Billings (1874). It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Hormotoma egregia by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Coelidium egregium by Clarke (1908); it was recombined as Michelia egregium by Linsley (1994); it was recombined as Catazone egregium by Wagner (2023).
