Niso darwini was named by de Koninck (1876). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Vetotuba darwini by de Koninck (1898); it was recombined as Coelocaulus darwini by Chapman (1916); it was recombined as Michelia darwini by Tassell (1976), Tassell (1982), Cook (1994), Wagner (2023).
