Pleurotomaria clarkei was named by Holzapfel (1895). Its type specimen is WMfN.P42828, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Manitobiella clarkei by Heidelberger and Koch (2005); it was recombined as Humboldtiella clarkei by Blodgett and Frýda (1999) and Wagner (2023).
