Pleurotomaria defrancii was named by d’Archiac and de Verneuil (1842) [Pleurotomaria Defrancii]. It is not extant.
It was corrected as Pleurotomaria defrancei by Holzapfel (1895), Beyer (1896) and Lotz (1900); it was recombined as Murchisonia defrancei by Kirchner (1915), Heidelberger (2001), Basse and Heidelberger (2002) and Wagner (2023).
