Pleurotomaria orbignyana was named by d’Archiac and de Verneuil (1842). It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Turbo orbignyanus by Barrois (1889); it was corrected as Pleurotomaria orbignyi by Kirchner (1915); it was recombined as Rhineoderma orbignyana by Kaufhold (1994); it was recombined as Devonorhineoderma orbignyana by Frýda (1998), Heidelberger (2001), Wagner (2023).
