Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria sphaerulata was named by Conrad (1842). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Trepospira.

It was recombined as Trepospira sphaerulata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Elias (1958), Karapunar and Nützel (2022), Wagner (2023).
