Auriptygma subtilistriatum was named by Knight (1931). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Leptoptygma subtilistriatum by Yochelson and Saunders (1967), Thein and Nitecki (1974), Kues and Batten (2001), Wagner (2023).
