Ophiomyxidae was named by Ljungman (1867). It is extant. Its type is Ophiomyxa.
It was assigned to Phrynophiurida by Matsumoto (1915); to Ophiomyxina by Spencer and Wright (1966), Smith et al. (1995), Jagt (2000), Storc and Zitt (2008); to Ophiodermatidea by O'Hara et al. (2017); and to Ophiodermatoidea by O'Hara et al. (2018).
It was assigned to Phrynophiurida by Matsumoto (1915); to Ophiomyxina by Spencer and Wright (1966), Smith et al. (1995), Jagt (2000), Storc and Zitt (2008); to Ophiodermatidea by O'Hara et al. (2017); and to Ophiodermatoidea by O'Hara et al. (2018).
