Taxonomy
Hystrixasterias hettangiurnus was named by Blake (1990). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Naturhistorisches Museum Basel, Abteilung Geologie, Holotype M9682. Its type locality is Asteroidea, Göppingen, Angulata zone, which is in a Hettangian marine siltstone in Germany. It is the type species of Hystrixasterias.
