It was reranked as Pinnularia (Diploneis) by Ehrenberg (1844).

It was assigned to Pinnularia by Ehrenberg (1844); to Naviculoideae by Andrews (1976); to Naviculaceae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); to Bacillariophyta by Abbott and Ernissee (1983); and to Diploneidaceae by Round et al. (1990).
