Oxydiscus venata was named by Girty (1910). Its type specimen is USNM 161320, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Tropidodiscus venata by Yochelson and Saunders (1967); it was recombined as Sinuitina venata by Yochelson (1969); it was recombined as Sinuitina (Vorticina) venata by Gordon and Yochelson (1987).
