Taxonomy
Pelagiella was named by Matthew (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm Fran-u Sepkoski's reference number: 270,580]. Its type is Cyrtolites atlantoides. It is the type genus of Pelagiellidae.
It was assigned to Cyrtonellida by Bengtson (1992); to Pelagiellida by Sepkoski (2002); to Helcionellidae by Gubanov et al. (2004) and Wotte (2006); and to Pelagiellidae by Knight (1952), Knight et al. (1960), Runnegar and Jell (1976), Linsley and Kier (1984), Missarzhevsky (1989), Brock and Cooper (1993), Parkhaev (2001), Landing et al. (2002), Parkhaev (2002), Parkhaev (2004), Bouchet et al.
