Taxonomy

Diomedea anglica was named by Lydekker (1891).

It was recombined as Phoebastria anglica by Olson and Rasmussen (2001) and Dyke et al. (2007).

Synonyms

Diomedea californica was named by Miller (1962). Its type specimen is Univ. Calif. Mus. Paleo. No. 61392, a limb element (distal half of a left tarsometatarsus), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Sharktooth Hill (Mitchell Collection), which is in a Langhian estuary/bay sandstone in the Temblor Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Phoebastria anglica by Olson and Rasmussen (2001).
