Merriamites was named by Blodgett and Johnson (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1004]. It is not extant. Its type is Merriamella eurekae.
It was assigned to Carinaropsinae by Blodgett and Johnson (1992); and to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002).
