Modestospira was named by Yochelson (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren O Cara-l Sepkoski's reference number: 797,1116]. It is not extant. Its type is Modestospira poulseni.
It was assigned to Sinuitidae by Runnegar and Jell (1976); to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sinuitinae by Yochelson (1964), Wagner (2023).
