Taxonomy
Phragmosphaera was named by Knight (1945) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u C Tour Sepkoski's reference number: 362,797]. It is not extant. Its type is Phragmosphaera miranda.

It was reranked as Patellilabia (Phragmosphaera) by Blodgett et al. (1999).

It was assigned to Knightitinae by Rollins et al. (1971); to Patellilabia by Blodgett et al. (1999); to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Carinaropsinae by Knight et al. (1960), Wagner (2023).
