Taxonomy
Ptychosphaera was named by Perner (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 615]. It is not extant. Its type is Ptychosphaera constricta.

It was assigned to Bellerophontinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Cymbulariinae by Horný (1963); and to Bellerophontida by Sepkoski (2002).
