Umbilia (Umbilia) prosila was named by Darragh (2002) [TYPE LOCALITY: Ledge, Bird ROck Cliffs, Torquay, Victoria. Jan Juc Fm (Janjukian, Late Oligocene)]. Its type specimen is P308716 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Ledge, Bird Rock, Torquay, which is in a Chattian marine siltstone/sandstone in the Jan Juc Formation of Australia.
