Taxonomy
Pentagonaster basseti was named by de Loriol (1887). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle of La Rochelle, topotype n° 1190. It was considered monophyletic by Breton (1997).
It was recombined as Comptoniaster basseti by Breton (1992) and Breton (1997).
