Stellaster sharpii was named by Wright (1880). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Natural History Museum, London, holotype BNHM OR 75792.
It was recombined as Metopaster sharpii by Lewis (1993); it was recombined as Comptoniaster sharpii by Breton (1983), Breton (1992), Breton (1997), Breton (1997).
