Metopaster chilipora

Taxonomy
Asterias chilipora was named by Desmoulins (1832). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Museum of Bordeaux, Holotype n°253. It was considered paraphyletic by Villier (1995), Breton (1997).

It was recombined as Pentetagonaster chilipora by d'Orbigny (1850); it was recombined as Pentetagonaster chiliporus by Coquand (1862), Beltrémieux (1866); it was recombined as Metopaster chilipora by Valette (1925), Breton (1978), Gale (1987), Breton (1992), Villier (1995), Destombes (1997), Breton (1997), Villier (2001), Villier and Odin (2001).

G. Breton 1992Species of large size defined on enlarged ultimate superomarginal plates. Plates large, high, outer face highly but regularly rounded and developed abactinally. Raised central area smothed to covered by granule-pits. Depressed margin relatively large. When partially covered, granule-pits are lacking on the abactinal side. Adradial face ovale, with a slight abactino-distal indentation. Enlarged ultimate superomarginal plates in contact with five to six inferomarginals.
