Agnostus acadicus was named by Hartt (1868).

It was recombined as Acadagnostus acadicus by Kobayashi (1939) and Geyer and Peel (2017); it was recombined as Peronopsis acadicus by Ivshin (1953); it was recombined as Peronopsis acadica by Robison (1995); it was recombined as Acadagnostus acadica by Naimark (2012) and Regalado Fernandez and Sour-Tovar (2022).
