Plesiothornipos binneyi was named by Harkness (1850). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Weston Point Quarry, which is in a Triassic terrestrial sandstone/claystone in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Plesiothornipos.
