Crassimarginata was named by Jhaveri (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 362]. It is the type genus of Crassimarginatidae.
It was assigned to Palaeotrochidae by Jhaveri (1969); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Crassimarginatidae by Frýda et al. (2002), Bouchet et al. (2005).
