Cyclostrema was named by Marryatt (1818) [Sepkoski's age data: K u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cyclostrematidae by Fischer (1885), Oostingh (1935) and Ladd (1982); to Turbinidae by Todd (2001); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Liotiinae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
