Teratosaurus minor was named by Huene (1908). Its type specimen is SMNS 11838, a set of postcrania, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Burrer Quarry, Pfaffenhofen, which is in an Alaunian terrestrial sandstone/marl in the Löwenstein Formation of Germany.

It was synonymized subjectively with Sellosaurus gracilis by Galton (1985), Galton (1985); it was considered a nomen dubium by Galton (2001), Galton and Upchurch (2004); it was recombined as Efraasia minor by Yates (2003), Upchurch et al. (2007), Galton (2007), Barrett et al. (2007), Galton et al. (2007), Irmis and Knoll (2008), Bittencourt and Kellner (2009), Yates (2010), Langer et al. (2010), Apaldetti et al. (2011), Becerra et al. (2016), Nau et al. (2020).
