Deinogalerix freudenthali
Taxonomy
Deinogalerix freudenthali was named by Butler (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is RGM 178100, M1 sup. dext., a tooth. Its type locality is Biancone, which is in a Vallesian/Turolian fissure fill limestone in Italy.

| P. M. Butler 1980 | Much smaller than D. koenigswaldi. M1 (holotype) measures 7.7 mm in buccal length. and 9.8 mm in anterior width. It also differs from D. koenigswaldi as follows: hypocone of P4 not divided; posterobuccal corner of M4 less extended, so that the buccal edge of P4 is shorter relatively to M1; posterior cingulum of M1 and M2 interrupted in some specimens by the posterior crest of the metaconule; M3 less reduced in size in comparison to M1. |
