Nucula strangei was named by Adams (1856). It is extant.

It was recombined as Nuculoma strangei by Van de Poel (1955); it was recombined as Leionucula strangei by Spencer and Willan (1996); it was recombined as Ennucula strangei by Fleming (1953), Dell (1956), Fleming (1966), Powell (1979), Beu and Maxwell (1990) and Beu (2006).
