Venericardia acanthodes was named by Suter (1917) [TYPE LOCALITY: Middle-Late Eocene; South Island, New Zealand]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Venericardia (Venericardia) acanthodes by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Glyptoactis (Fasciculicardia) acanthodes by Beu et al. (1990).
