Venericardia southlandica was named by Fleming (1955) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene (Kapitean); South Island, New Zealand]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Venericardia (Venericardia) southlandica by Fleming (1966); it was recombined as Purpurocardia southlandica by Beu et al. (1990).
