Apocricetus angustidens

Taxonomy
Cricetus angustidens was named by Depéret (1890). It is not extant. Its type specimen is MGHN Pp75, a maxilla (dext. with m1-m3). Its type locality is Batterie du Serrat d'en Vacquer, which is in a Pliocene fluvial siltstone/sandstone in France. It is the type species of Apocricetus.

It was recombined as Apocricetus angustidens by Freudenthal et al. (1998).

M. Freudenthal et al. 1998Large Apocricetus; m1 with a crest-like anteroconid, that may show some vestigial subdivision. Mesolophid absent in m1, present though weak in about 50% of the m3. Anterior protolophule rarely present in M1, more frequent in M2, and present in about 33% of the M3. Posterior metalophule absent in all upper molars.
