Archicypraea was named by Schilder (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno T Eo-u]. Its type is Cypraea lioyi. It is the type genus of Archicypraeinae.
It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Bernayinae by Soriano (2006); and to Archicypraeinae by Schilder (1927) and Dolin and Pacaud (2009).
