Ianthinopsis melanoides
Taxonomy
Polyphemopsis melanoides was named by Whitfield (1882). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Newtonville, which is in a Chesterian carbonate limestone in the Maxville Formation of Ohio.
It was recombined as Bulimorpha melanoides by Weller (1898); it was recombined as Sphaerodoma melanoides by Girty (1915); it was recombined as Ianthinopsis melanoides by Yochelson and Saunders (1967); it was recombined as Globozyga melanoides by Jeffery et al. (1994).
