Macrocheilus klipparti was named by Meek (1871). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Ianthinopsis klipparti by Hoare (1961), Sturgeon (1964); it was recombined as Strobeus klipparti by Harper (1981); it was recombined as Soleniscus klipparti by Keyes (1889), Wagner (2023).
