Taxonomy
Lucina speciosa was named by Rogers and Rogers (1837) [DISTRIBUTION: Ealry Pliocene-Early Pleistocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Codakia speciosa by Conrad (1863); it was recombined as Codakia (Jagonia) speciosa by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Ctena speciosa by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Ctena (Ctena) speciosa by Hendy et al. (2008).
