Bourguetia was named by Deshayes (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis J Kimm].

It was corrected as Bourgetia by Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Gastropoda by Gardner and Campbell (1997), Fürsich (1999); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Caenogastropoda by Gründel (2003); and to Pseudomelaniidae by Gründel and Mitta (2013).
