Miopentagonaster calloviensis was named by Mercier (1935). It is not extant. Its type specimen is No longer available. It is the type species of Miopentagonaster. It was considered monophyletic by Mercier (1935).

J. Mercier 1935Small size. Outline pentagonal with short, blunt arms. Four superomarginal plates per side. Superomarginals long, narrow, flattened to weakly convex. Enlarged ultimate superomarginal plates highly inflated. Terminal plate large. Inferomarginals larger than superomarginals. Abactinal plates hexagonal. Abactinal, marginal and actinolateral plates covered by granules.
