It was synonymized subjectively with Suiformes by McKenna and Bell (1997).

It was assigned to Artiodactyla by Colbert (1938), Scott (1940), Sahni and Khare (1971), Hooker (1986).
Ancodonta was named by Matthew. It is extant.

It was reranked as the unranked clade Ancodonta by Simpson (1945); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Suiformes by McKenna and Bell (1997).
