Nymphaster marginatus was named by Sladen (1891). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Museum of Natural History, London, holotype BNHM OR 35484.
It was recombined as Ophryaster marginatus by Spencer (1913); it was recombined as Chomataster marginatus by Rasmussen (1950).
