Plohophorops was named by Rusconi (1934). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Glyptodontidae by Marshall and Sempere (1991); to Plohophorini by Hoffstetter (1958), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Glyptodontia by Fernicola (2008).
