It was recombined as Lamna acutissima by Agassiz (1843) and Lawley (1876); it was recombined as Odontaspis acutissima by Leriche (1926), Weiler (1938), Leriche (1942), Ciobanu (1977), Case (1981) and Purdy et al. (2001); it was recombined as Odontaspis (Synodontaspis) acutissima by Heinrich (1969) and Marsili et al. (2007); it was recombined as Synodontaspis acutissima by Cappetta (1987); it was recombined as Carcharias acutissima by Dutheil (1991), Antunes and Balbino (2003), Kocsis (2007) and Szabo et al. (2017); it was recombined as Carcharias acutissimus by Villafaña et al. (2020).
