Cypraeopsis was named by Schilder (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l T Mi-m]. Its type is Cypraeopsis vandervlerki.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Pediculariinae by Dolin and Lozouet (2004); and to Pediculariini by Bouchet (2016).
