Taxonomy
Phacodus irregularis was named by Cope (1869). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shiloh Marl, which is in a Burdigalian marginal marine marl in the Kirkwood Formation of New Jersey.

It was recombined as Crommyodus irregularis by Cope (1875), Hay (1902) and Rapp (1946).
