Subterraniphyllum was named by Elliott (1957). It is not extant. Its type is Subterraniphyllum thomasii.
It was assigned to Corallinales by Bassi et al. (2000); to Corallinoideae by Saxena et al. (2005); and to Corallinaceae by Andrews (1970), Kundal and Humane (2005), Kundal (2011).
