Thigriffides alamogordoensis was named by Brezinski (2000) [Thigriffides? alamogordoensis]. Its type specimen is CM 45993, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dead Mans Branch, Alamo Canyon, Lake Valley Formation, Alamogordo Member, Otero, which is in an Osagean deep subtidal shelf lime mudstone/wackestone in the Lake Valley Formation of New Mexico.

D. K. Brezinski 2000Large species with parabolic pygidial outline of 14 to 15 ring, and 10 to 11 ribs. Relief low; axis long, strongly tapering, sides curved in plan view, sharpy rounded at terminus. Pleural ribs with no bands discernable. Border furrow distinct, border flange-like.
