Taxonomy
Ursus melanoleucus was named by David (1869). It is extant.
It was recombined as Ailuropus melanoleucus by Milne-Edwards (1871); it was recombined as Aeluropus melanoleucus by Flower and Lydekker (1891); it was recombined as Ailuropoda melanoleuca by Milne-Edwards (1870), Ewer (1973), Chorn and Hoffman (1978), Waits et al. (1999) and Jin et al. (2007).
