Patella acuminata was named by Grateloup (1828) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Helcion acuminata by D'Orbigny (1852); it was recombined as Asteracmea acuminata by Lozouet et al. (2001).
