Aquilofusus was named by Kautsky (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Fasciolariidae by Wienrich (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Buccinidae by Schnetler et al. (2024).
