Cassis harpaeformis was named by Lamarck (1803) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Eocene-Early Miocene; Europe, Pakistan.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Lamarck collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France.
It was recombined as Cassidea (Semicassis) harpaeformis by Cossmann and Pissarro (1913); it was recombined as Semicassis harpaeformis by Iqbal (1980).
